Continued…..
Leaving Fruita with our tastebuds satisfied from the wonderful fresh fruit we head further along Hwy 24 deeper into Capital Reef National Park. Ever wondered what it would be like to walk on Mars, then this is probably as close as it gets. The earth here is vibrant. Hues of purple and red are due to the rains today and is perfect for photographing the rock formations formed so long ago. We stop and view many of the famous formations along the Hwy such as “The Castle”, “Chimney Rock”, and “The Twins” before heading south on Hwy 12 towards Boulder Mountain.
Boulder Mountain is at an altitude of approximately 9000 ft. We had heard how beautiful the area was in this region and was not at all disappointed and definitely entertained by the many cows that are left to roam freely to graze here. We stopped to take a looksey but was given the evil eye by one or two of the herd. I could just hear them saying…move along…nothing to see here now. I couldn’t help myself at this point. I broke out in laughter. All I could think of was the Chick-fil-A commercials with the cow on top of the car and the cows in the field holding up cards saying Eat more Chicken….
And the view that these cows had…..Wow!
Heading for the final stretch of the day is a stretch in the Hwy that runs the ridge of the slickrock known as The Hogback. Other than a few feet of grass, flowers, or shrub or two on either side of the two lane road, not much else can cling as the terrain drops steeply off both sides into the canyon below. Similar to this local, Hell’s backbone was a destination on today’s “To Do List” but we are simply running out of light. Seeing the road wind out of sight in the distance with both sides of the canyons visible is not for the faint of heart.
One last look before the night’s end.

(A soldier with looking for a mission)
Thank you Capt. Savage for the compliment
Lovely scenery and contrasts
thank you for the nice compliment
Wow…Martian indeed with all that red soil and those rocks. BEAUTIFUL! (especially the ones set against the brilliant blue sky…wow…yet AGAIN!)
🙂
This area is so wonderfully rich in beauty. It is not hard to find something to photgraph
Wow these pictures are incredible!
Thank you so much
They are all wonderful and thank you for sharing them. My favorite was the lone tree.
I love tree pics. Have ever since I was little. We always seem to find one that leads to a great shot.
Absolutely gorgeous photos! I love the southwest, and now I’m wanting to go back even more after looking at these! Thanks for sharing!
We love the southwest too. We travel quite a bit but the southwest region is by far our favorite.
This is awesome!
Thank you for the nice comment
Beautiful pics! I’ve beheld many of those same rock formations in my own travels in UT, and these shots made me very wistful. I love how cows are just everywhere out west, too. We ran into some forest-cows once while hiking with our (understandably perturbed) dog. There was this crashing-through-the-brush sound coming at us from multiple sides, and suddenly cows, surrounding our yelping dog and our own stunned, gaping mouths. Apparently this is not an uncommon thing, but it sure caught us off guard!
We seem to find cows everywhere and I don’t know why but we always want to photograph them too. We have had some similar meeting with cows ourselves while out on hikes
That’s funny, we do the same thing! We like to photograph cows in unusual environments. My favorite times have been seeing them on a green ocean-side bluff in Maui, and seeing them congregate on the side of a strip mall in Oklahoma.
Anyways, happy travels to ya!
Cows are everywhere and they seem to get themselves into the most unusual locations. They never look harried. It is like they should be there. Maybe that is why we find ourselves photographing them.
Those are absolutely beautiful photographs!
Thank you so much for commenting on them
That third photograph is unbelievable!! Gorgeous!
Also, I’m loving the cows…for some reason, life just seems more serene when cows are around. 🙂
Congratulations on being Freshly Pressed!
Thank you. I am so excited about being pressed. It is quite exciting to see my site displayed
The pictures took my breathe away. What clarity and beauty in nature’s beauty you managed to capture. You are truly gifted. I was also impressed with the quality of the writing. A quality of writing that spurs me on to do much better in my own writing. Thank you so much in sharing this blog with the WordPress family.
Thank you so much for your kind words. This blog was started to remember all the wonderful moments on our journeys. I find I remember so much more recording the journeys this way.

Utah, Nevada, California, Arizona. I loved Utah most.
Thanks! Those pictures are so beautiful and full of life that i do not have to figure out how to afford that vacation for a while because it feels like i was there with you! Really cool!
Thank you. I am so glad that I could bring this little piece of Utah to you
Beautiful photos! I think my favourite is the one where the road curves around to the left and you can just see the hills and scenery and sky beyond it. Gorgeous.
I think that is one of my favorite too
PHWAR!! I LOVE these photos. :] xx
They are some of my favorites for the journey
Great pictures! I especially like the last 4.
Today was a great day for photos as it was lots of wonderful clouds to work with
AAAHHHH And I LOVE Bon Jovi (too much) So enjoyed the this aint a blog for the broken hearted… ;] xx
When I started this blog I was deliberating about what tone to set for it. Then I remembered this song….Bon Jovi was the biggest thing around when I was a kid. I thought it was perfect compliment to what we wanted to say.
Damnit. Now I want to photograph these.
That’s what I say when I see great pics too.
Wow! Thank you for bringing such a beautiful landscape into my view.
And what a wonderful view it was to bring

Utah is an amazing place to take photos of
Incredible photos!
Thank you for the compliment on the photos

Stunning photography. We have those “cow crossing” signs in our town – they still crack me up.
We always get a kick out of signs, and because of our travels we have come across quite a few interesting ones
wow! these are great photos 🙂
Thank you for the kind words
These are beautiful pictures. They deserve to be FP’d. Enjoy the ride! 🙂
I am a little star struck. Thank you for the compliment
I swear, Utah has some of the most beautiful parks. I didn’t make it to Capitol Reef when I went but maybe next time. 🙂 I’ve seen so many pictures recently on people’s blogs that it looks like I will have to make a second trip back out there. Thanks for sharing!
There are so many wonderful sights in that region. We barely skimmed the icing this time around and we definitely want to go back again too
Thanks, awesome travel!
This was one our favorite excursions
Awesome.
Thanks
There is something so calming about large dry rocks. I love the landscape of Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. It solidifies my belief in a creator.
The rocks are wonderful. We stayed here a few more days and I will be posting more on this area over the next week or two
Gorgeous photos! Congrats on being Freshly Pressed! 🙂
Thank you so much for the nice compliment
Wow! Every one is exquisite!
The type of place you just can’t visit just once
cool pics!
Glad you liked them
I love your pictures, Wow! The colors are so wonderful and I love the road perspectives! Well Done!
My husband loves roads and will stop any chance he can to photograph them. I am sort of the same way with trees
I can just imagine how nice and calming it must be to be somewhere so different in nature.
We find just travel away from our own town we find hidden treasures, though we loved this area which is miles away
Amazing photos, makes me want to run outside into the wild!
I love that. Run outside wild. That is how we feel when we travel.
Spectacular!
My words exactly for this area
Wow. Just wow.
Reminds of the the desserts in Arizona. You should come and take at look at the mountain views there. Just magnificent wonder of nature.
We visited Arizona prior to this. This was a three week excursion with the first week in Arizona mountains. We stayed in Show Low and visited many place in the deserts south of there
Wow! Very beautiful photos. You are very talented. Some of those red rock formations photos look like they could have been taken south of Moab, Utah. I have hitchhiked through Moab many times over the years.
“Wyoming to Utah”
http://tim-shey.blogspot.com/2010/12/wyoming-to-utah.html
We visited Moab last year and loved it. We trekked all around the region. A fabulous place
wow, those photos are unreal!!! Fantastic job, keep up the good work :]
Thank you. It was a fantastic place to be.
really nice photos and really nice place!
Beautiful place. Definitely a must see.
Wow… I am amazed at your images from your travels… I was in a trans just looking at them and wished it was me traveling down Capital Reef National Park. I’m sure you had such a great time just experiencing the views that you shared with everyone. Its so breath taking… thank you for sharing…
We definitely want to return again
Sounds like a wonderful trip – love the photos
We love our trips. In fact they keep us sane.
wow, the view is very beautiful, and the photos you take is very good
Thank you for the words of praise
beautiful!
Yes this region is
Love the darker photos here. How tranquil.
Yes. These are very different from our usual shots but had the right feel for the region
Awesome pictures!! But I hate vicariously enjoying the gorgeous views so from here on out I ban myself from looking at them (as if seeing the pictures would somehow diminish my drive to travel), Take me with you next time!! — I’m not terrible company either, I swear!
I don’t know. I view pictures from others and it makes me ache to go myself. I think this is why I started the blog. I wanted others to get the itch too
Just beautiful!
There was so many that I did not post. This area is amazing
These images touched my Cherokee side! Love this post 😀
Blessings
The land is so untouched in this area. We loved how crisp the air was every morning and how rich the colors became after the rains
Stunning.
Absolutely stunning countryside
Excellent photos.
Steven Wade Edinburgh.
Thanks you for taking the time to visit. I am glad to share our world
I’ve seen so many photos of this area, but these make it seem new — the textures, colors, overall tone, wow! Gorgeous. Congratulations on being FP, well done!

Beautiful place to visit if you can
Great photos in your post. I really enjoyed how you captured views from day to night, it really shows the diference in details. More than anything your post puts life in perspective and makes me realize how beautiful our country is. Peace.
Our country is beautiful and there is so much we have yet to experience. I may not be able to visit the rest of this wonderful planet but plan to see as much as I can of what lies around myself here
Awesome pics 🙂
One of a kind place
Gorgeous pictures.
I was glad to share
Oh, goodness — I LOVE the tree picture and the one right before it with the clouds. These pics are so inspiring. 🙂
I absolutely love images with a lone tree, especially when the tree is barren of leaves. I find myself gravitating to take these over many other types of photos
What beautiful pictures!
A beautiful place makes it easy to take such shots
Beautiful – we’re considering a trip to UT this summer.
You have to go if you can. We stayed in Escalante as it was central for us to visit many national parks in the area but there is plenty of other places just as wonderful as this area
Thanks for the tip about Escalante. I’ll remember that!
I will be posting our excursions with the off road driving soon. If you do visit that is a definite must do.
Stunning.
Yes this region is exactly that
I hope to see it someday!
Someday I’ll get there 🙂
I like how you incorporated poetry and song into your blog
Beautiful photos! Never ventured to this part of the country, but your images do it inspiring justice!
I hope they inspire you to venture that way too one day.
breathtaking photography!
A place to want to photograph for sure
These images are breathtaking! Thank you for sharing.
They were breathtaking to experience
Amazing pictures!!
Equally amazing place
Incredible! What else can you say? Beautiful creation.
Very beautiful creation
these are some breathtaking fantastic photos. I like the black top road disappearing out of sight the most.
My husband loves roads. We always seem to have plenty of shots of this type of landscape. I really enjoy them too especially when the sun is low on the horizon.
Very much enjoyed these pictures. Thank you.
It was my pleasure making them available to everyone
Those are amazingly sumptuous photographs. I loved looking at them!
I appreciate your kind words
Simply amazing pics! 🙂 America the beautiful! 🙂 Love John Wayne/John Ford country; such an awesome creation, this land. Thank you, for sharing.
Last year’s trip was fantastic. I think it was then we realized that we loved this part of America.
ever consider selling your photography?? Their beautiful pictures
Had not thought about selling them. This blog started as a way to share our world with others. Thank you for the kind words
I loved your article on “Hippocrates.” If you can’t pronounce the ingredient you shouldn’t eat it.
I did an Outward Bound course in this area many years ago. Everyone should visit here, or at least savor these photographs.
I would have to agree. Before visiting here I would never have thought that Utah was as beautiful as it was. It really is amazing and needs to be seen in the various lights of day and seasons too.
The best photography i had ever seen in my life..
Samantha
Thank you for your kind words about the pictures
Wow! I love these photos, makes me want to go there as well! Maybe someday…
Looking back on them I wish we were there again. It was an amazing place with so much to see and do. We barely skimmed the area in our 8 day stay
Arukah. I will remember that word. My husband and I are always talking about what being healthy is. In our society many see skinny as healthy. We are always saying that our travels keep us healthy. It is a way to not only cleanse our lungs but our minds. Great article!
Beautiful and amazing pictures 🙂
It truly was an awesome experience
I loved your blog on Music. I would have to agree with you how music creates images in our minds and can even trigger memories as we listen to it.
IT’S OUR LIFE. Absolutely amazing photos. Congrats!
It’s OUR LIFE is a tribute to all the amazing experience and opportunities out there. Thank you for your kind words.
Well done Sharon & Andrew. How lovely that your incredibly beautiful photos and interesting commentary are bringing so much pleasure to so many people. I know how they feel. These photos just blew me away too. Would love to have my walls here in Australia covered in them. At the very least they would make a wonderful calendar for people all over the world. I am very proud of you both. Lots of love Mum xx
You were and are my inspiration Bev. This site was created as way to connect us to you for all the time we are not able to spend together as a family because of the vast distance between us. Maybe one day soon we can show you some of these wonderful places first hand.
Thanks for sharing such marvellous captures with people like us, who stays far off 🙂
My family leaves in another country and many of them have not seen this one. We began this endeavor to bring our world to them. I am happy to see that it has also done the same for so many others too.
Wow. A beautiful narration to go with the unforgettable , amazing images.
Even though the pictures do tell the story, we had so many more “moments” in between that were never captured with the lens that needed to have a voice too. Thank you for sharing your kind words.
Incredible pictures!
Thank you. I loved your picture of the Eiffel Tower
Very cool pictures.
I read your blog about New York. That is somewhere my husband really wants to visit.
If you go, definitely look into staying in the Prospect Park neighborhood of Brooklyn. There is street parking, great resteraunts, and by subway it’s only a few minutes from Manhattan. We found a cool (cheap) rental through Home Away. It was our first and so far only time going through them.
Thank you for the great information. I will store it away for when we go.
Your photos are amazing.
thank you musingsontheroad
Lovely photos! I really enjoyed them 🙂
thank you seasonsgirl
Stunning photographs!
Thank you harpersfarm. I read your “Flashback” and it made me think as I am in that profession. I will keep your blog in mind instead of saying “Pick Your Partners”
Beautiful photos! We were there a year and a half ago, but it was summer, so things looked a bit different. Hope you’re having a great time!
This was last summer too. However it stormed most days and that is where most of the great photo ops came from
Oh I miss the Southwest!! So glad I found your site!
I loved the squirrels on your page. Squirrels make wonderful photo subjects don’t they
They really do! Thanks!
Amazing! I’m packing up the car right now.
Packing my bags too and getting in gear for the next trip.
Nice pictures! Makes me want to be there too! Congrats on being on Freshly Pressed!
I loved your blog on “Habit of Choice” thank you for the compliment on the pictures
Great post! Loved the pictures. Noticed some nice, understated post-production, just stunning skies! What type of camera do you use? Congrats on your Pressage!!
Dug
Thank you for the compliment Oasis Projekt. I enjoyed viewing your TREK. That was some Sunday stroll.
All i could say the whole way through was WOW!!!
Thank you. I am glad they were pleasing to the eye
Your blog title caught my eye, once I click I was hooked by all these beautiful pictures. May I ask what camera do you use? Our family travels a lot too but I am a bit timid in sharing our pics but your blog just became my inspiration. I do wonder though if I should edit some of my pics before posting. I am a big Bon Jovi and love how creative you got with that song. 🙂
Thank you for your kind words. I always loved Bon Jovi as a teenager and thought this song was fit the mood of the blog.
That first batch of photos was great. I’m a geology dork, and so I was just impressed by the uniformity of rock (and in awed wonder of its prehistorical significance).
But I was also rather impressed by the overall artfulness of some of the pictures; the vivid sky in one, the dark ominous shading in others… and of course the classic perspective shots.
Very impressive photos.
PS That last photo freaked me out a little at first; it looked like it had snowed! (wtf?) Then I looked closer, and I saw that it was just the visual effects on the photo… someone’s a fan of photoshop! And I know it’s photoshop, because I once saw a friend use that program to impressive, and similar, results.
Got me. Thought I would have a bit of fun with that last shot. Was very blown out but nice effect to end the blog.
I enjoyed your blog and your pictures are amazing!
Thank you Melspennies
Amazing clicks !!
Thank you Siba Sahu. I really like your candle picture too
Thanks do visit my blog too
Very nice pictures, I’m going through some decision crisis in life and this really makes me think I should drop everything and hit the roads, give myself a good trip and just enjoy nature the way it is. thanks for sharing these awesome photos!
Life is short….live it to it’s fullest…that is the way my husband and I think….
Your photos are amazing!!
thank you Living In The Moment….
Thumbs up for these awesome photos!
thank you photographyz
I loved the compositions in your photos too!
These photos are stunning! I love the crisp colors and your use of the curving lines — makes the photos breath-taking. Kudos!
Thank you so much Chad. I am pleased that so many like the photos
Of course! How could they not like these photos?! Again, kudos! Kudos!!!
Well done Sharon & Andrew. How lovely that your incredibly beautiful photos and interesting commentary are bringing so much pleasure to so many people. I know how they feel.
